Patients with claustrophobia
- Upright MRI examination is well tolerated even by patients with marked claustrophobia.
- During the examination, patients have a clear view out of the system.
- The current TV program or DVD movies can be followed on a large monitor during the examination.
- The coils (including the head coil for cranial examinations) are designed to allow a clear view out of the system at all times.
- Accompanying persons are welcome to stay in the MRI room during the examination. However, the same restrictions apply to these persons (pacemakers, insulin pumps, etc.) as described in our Contraindications & Risks section.
Overweight patients
- Overweight patients can be examined in upright MRI up to a body weight of approximately 230kg.
- The distance between the two magnetic poles is 46cm. The system is completely open to the front.
- Abdominal coils up to a circumference of 165cm are available.
- Overweight patients often develop hyperlordosis in the lumbar spine while standing, which causes narrowing of the neuroforamina. This clinical picture can be reliably diagnosed by the upright MRI examination.
