Keyfact #1

The essential feature of the Upright MRI is that now, for the first time, an MRI examination can be performed upright and thus under the natural weight load.

Whether standing or sitting, lying down or in functional positions – complete motion studies are possible with the Upright MRI. In many cases, this enables complementary and more meaningful diagnostics that cannot be achieved with conventional MRI examinations performed exclusively in the lying position.

Many pathological changes, e.g. in the spine, can only be detected when the patient is standing or sitting. While the spine does not bear any weight when lying down, the weight of the body rests on the intervertebral discs when standing or sitting. Due to these loads, the intervertebral discs are compressed more strongly and can therefore deform more significantly, thereby constricting the nerve canal or the neuroforamina. With the Upright MRI, these load-dependent changes can be visualized and detected more precisely for the first time.

Furthermore, the Upright MRI enables complete motion studies to be performed.

The spine, for example, can be examined not only in the upright posture but also in forward flexion, backward flexion and even lateral (lateral) flexion.

Upright MRI allows almost unrestricted freedom of movement – and thus almost any positioning of the patient. This means that patients can be examined in the exact posture in which complaints occur.

This makes it possible to detect position-dependent pathologies that were previously not visible. This enables a more meaningful and accurate diagnosis.

The weight-bearing joints (e.g. the knee joints or the hip joints) can now also be examined while standing under the natural weight load and in various postural positions. This is because patients often only complain of pain symptoms when standing or walking.

During the examination, you have an unobstructed view from the system and look at a large monitor on which you can follow the current television program or watch video films.
